Creating or Modifying Hexoskin profile information

Setting up the Hexoskin Profile

Creating a Hexoskin Account

During the process of creating your Hexoskin account, you will be prompted to provide details such as your name, gender, date of birth, height, weight, and password. It's important to note that you can modify this information whenever needed.

Some Hexoskin metrics are calculated based on the gender, date of birth, height, and weight:

  • energy_mifflin_keytel
  • tidal_volume_adjusted
  • minute_ventilation_adjusted

For more precise calculation of certain Hexoskin metrics, we recommend providing your gender, date of birth, height, and weight, and keeping the weight (and height for children or teenagers) updated. If you are concerned about maintaining the privacy of your profile, please read the section at the end of this article which explains how you can benefit from the energy, tidal volume, and minute ventilation metrics while also preserving anonymity and privacy.

Please note that changing your demographics will only be taken into account in the new records collected from this point onward. The previously synced records will not be affected by these changes

Modifying Profiles Information

To modify your profile's information, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Hexoskin Dashboard (my.hexoskin.com).
  2. On the top right, select "Settings", then "Profile".
  3. Under "Info", you will be able to change your gender, weight, height, and date of birth. Click on "Submit" to confirm the changes.

To edit your weight quickly, you can also use the "Health Status" tab, scroll down to the "Measurements" section and select the "pencil" to enter your new weight.

Ensuring Privacy While Benefiting From the Hexoskin Metrics

Security & Privacy

Hexoskin is committed to the guiding principles of the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), to which the company has been successfully audited.

To maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the data, Hexoskin advises against capturing the name, GPS, and date of birth (DOB) information to protect the privacy and confidentiality of research participants.

Alternative identification often used is the generation of a participant number that is only possible to de-anonymize with a de-anonymization system, which is only accessible to the research team or study administrators. These access privileges should be managed outside of the Hexoskin or Astroskin Platform.

The gender and age of the participant are important for some estimations reported by the Hexoskin platform, but the complete date of birth (DOB) is not required; simply the year of birth would suffice. The month can be entered if you feel that this information would not allow for the identification of the participant. Hexoskin advises against capturing the day of birth on the Hexoskin or Astroskin platform.

The height and the weight can be estimated; however, the data reported will be less precise.

The GPS data can potentially compromise security or privacy. The Hexoskin Device does not have a GPS of its own. The GPS data is not collected on the Hexoskin device, but on the smartphone app when the Hexoskin (or Astroskin) Device is paired via Bluetooth. It is possible to deactivate this functionality and not use the GPS in the smartphone settings.
